Guest Information

Hello there! Welcome!

Wondering about the Wi-Fi? Organising your next excursion? Looking for a place to eat?

Look no further! We’ve put together some information to help make the most of your stay at Bali Ginger Suites & Villa here on this page.

Ask any of our lovely staff for help if needed, and we’d love to hear your feedback at the Front Desk if you find anything lacking.

1. Location

Bali Ginger Suites & Villa is in the heart of Seminyak. The thing we always recommend our guests do first is explore! There’s so much to see and do, it almost doesn’t matter which direction you head, but here we’ll try and give you an overview of the awesome destinations you definitely won’t want to miss. If you’re looking for restaurants head over to our section on Where To Eat.

Seminyak Beach – Head west and you’ll quickly find yourself on the beautiful sandy shores of Seminyak Beach. Go for a swim, grab a surfboard for the day or take a seat under a palm tree and enjoy a cold coconut. There’s so much to see and do at different times of the day, so make sure to visit often!

Shopping – Walk to the end of Gang Ginger, turn left onto the small lane and left again (away from the beach). You’ll find yourself headed into a great area full of interesting shops. Clothing, decorations and ornaments, jewelry, keepsakes, incense, etc. See what you can find! There’s always something new.

Spas – Similar story to the shops. You won’t have any difficulty running into dozens of them in this area! But some are certainly better than others. We personally recommend guests visit Spa Bali, Aspya or Shampoo Lounge, but there’s a whole range of spas to suit your needs, and it’s a damn competitive industry, you’re sure to have a good time wherever you go!

Supermarkets – There is one in every direction… Bintang Supermarket, Cocomart, Pepitos, Frestive.

Handicrafts – Geneva Handicrafts, Krisna Oleh-oleh, Ebano, Legian Art Market for all the Bintang T-shirts, original DVD copies, genuine $5 Rolex watches and wooden things that make Australian Customs go cross-eyed.

Seminyak & Beyond. Ready for more? Consider these attractions!

If you require a late check-out please inquire at Front Desk the day before.

ATM & Money Changer

We recommend that you go to professional money changers on the main streets (they are glass fronted and have air-con). If the exchange rate looks too good to be true, then it is too good to be true. The nearest Money Changer is BMC Seminyak on Jl. Raya Seminyak (opposite Bintang Supermarket) and another on Jl Kerobokan. There are a number of ATMs just around the corner on Jl. Camplung Tanduk. Danamon Bank issues the largest withdrawals of Rp 3,000,000. Other ATM’s vary. We recommend ATMs that are attached to a bank as they have security. There are many banks with ATMs on Jl Kerobokan. There are also ATMs inside Circle K convenience stores (eg Jl Drupadi opposite Harris Hotel).

Books

There is a range of books available for exchange.

Breakfast & Meals

Breakfast is served at Sweet Ginger Cafe between 8:00 and 10:30 or it can be served beside the pool or delivered to your room. You can place your order by calling Front Desk. Doctors are available on call or at a nearby clinic. Dr Ristie Darmawan is western trained, has good English and was the director of BIMC. She is reliable and you can see her at her private clinic in Canggu. Contact details can be found under “Useful Phone Numbers”.

No Smoking

Smoking is not permitted in the bedrooms. Ashtrays are available for use in the open living areas.

Photocopies

Please contact Front Desk for charges and assistance.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Bali is changing and thankfully so are the waste management systems. There are many people now working to reduce the rubbish which will otherwise end up in the rivers and ocean. We care about the environment and so do the following:

• Provide free filtered water in every suite. Feel free to refill your reusable water bottle. Drink bottles are available for sale at the Front Desk.

• Linen and towels are changed twice a week, (unless requested otherwise).

• Our laundry uses biodegradable detergents and everything is dried in the sun whenever possible.

• Use refillable soap dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap and dishwashing detergent.

• Since opening in 2012, we have not bought plastic bags to line rubbish bins etc. Instead we use reusable bins and wash them.

• We are committed to educating our staff and continue to find new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle to the benefit of our guests and Bali.

• And here is one you might chuckle about: encourage Balinese offerings to include organic items only so discourage food wrapped in plastic. The gods don’t like plastic either.

Reviews

If you enjoyed your stay, we hope you will tell your friends. If you have a problem, please tell us.  Reviews do make a difference and should you take the time to write a review we thank you. We are a small family business and are always looking for ways to improve so welcome your feedback. If you have any suggestions or comments about your holiday at Bali Ginger Suites & Villa we would love to hear from you.  Talk to Dina our manager or email holiday@tropical-infusions.com.

Safety Box

Every bedroom has a safe which we recommend guests use. As is the case in most countries, do not leave valuables in the open and remember to lock your rooms. On arrival the safety box code will be set to 123A. Enter your code by following these instructions;

  1. Press the red button on the inside of the safe door near the hinge.
  2. You will hear the beeps and the yellow PROCEED light will come on.
  3. Enter a 3 or 4 digit code. To end press “A” or “B”. Eg ‘123A’. Do not use ‘0’ as this will result in an error.
  4. After you have entered the new code the green READY light will come on. You can now close the safe.

Security

Bali Ginger Suites & Villa has staff at the property 24 hours a day who monitor guests and other visitors. CCTV cameras cover the parameters of the property and the entrance to Bali Ginger Suites & Villa. Every suite has a safety box.

Spirituality

There is a temple by the entrance at Bali Ginger Suites & Villa. It is important for our staff and guests to know that, on the Island of the Gods they are protected and cared for on a spiritual level. Guests will sometimes see the offerings being presented, and if interested, feel free to ask our Balinese staff about them. Everywhere in Bali you will encounter ceremonies taking place, especially during the full moon. Wearing beautiful ceremonial clothing, the Balinese bring elaborate offerings to the temple and beaches. Feel free to follow the parade and respectfully enjoy the spectacle. Every 6 months, during Galungan, the streets are adorned with penjors, which are towering bamboo structures with stunning handmade decorations. Once a year, during Nyepi the whole island enjoys a Day of Silence. The night before Nyepi, enormous demonic sculptures are paraded in the streets, which is one of our favourite times of the year. This is followed by a day and night where everyone must stay within their villa or resort compound, even the airport is closed and all lights are turned off in the night.

Nearby are several temples, notably on the beach at Petitenget. Temples become a focal point for the ceremonies, they are very photogenic, and visitors are welcome to take photos. It is essential to dress and behave appropriately. Feel free to ask our Balinese staff if there will be any special ceremonies during your stay. Our staff are Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Catholic and Buddhist, reflecting Indonesia’s wonderful diversity. Each religion has ceremonies and holidays which are celebrated nationally.

Suites & Villa

Located around a shared pool, all suites have big comfortable beds, bedrooms with air-con, dining / living areas and kitchenettes.

Each suite is a bit different and special in its own way; Ginger Suites 1, 2 & 3 (each with a private garden and open directly onto the swimming pool), Ginger Suites 4 & 5 (open onto their own terrace overlooking the swimming pool), Ginger Suites 6 & 7 (upstairs with private enclosed balcony), Double Happiness Suite, (our beautiful romantic hideaway which is a popular honeymoon choice) and Bali Ginger Villa (2-bedroom villa, set in a stunning courtyard with private pool). The Double Happiness Suite can be booked separately or together with the Bali Ginger Villa to create a luxurious 3-bedroom villa. Larger groups of friends and families of up to 20 people can book any combination for their lazy tropical holiday in Bali.

Taxi, Gojek & Grab

Taxis are very affordable. We recommend that you have the right change ready and keep small notes, as some taxi drivers may say they do not have any change. Ask for the meter to be turned on or you can negotiate a rate if you are confident about a fair fee. There is a minimum charge of Rp 30,000 which will get you to most locations within Seminyak and Legian. We recommend phoning for a taxi as when you do, the taxi number is recorded. You also have the option of installing Grab or Gojek on your phone, which gives you access to delivery services as well as transportation. Prices on these apps also tend to be cheaper than Taxi fairs, however Taxis can be more convenient and more comfortable.

Tips

Tipping is not required or expected, though it is appreciated. If you wish to, you can leave tips with Front Desk to be divided amongst the staff. We encourage our staff to work as a team and believe that every job plays an important part of providing the excellent standard guests enjoy when staying at Bali Ginger Suites & Villa.

Towels

Towels and linen are changed twice a week or as requested. Pool towels are beside the swimming pool. Please do not take any bath or pool towels from the premises. Beach towels are available in the beach basket in your room. Lost or missing towels will be added to your bill.

Umbrellas

Umbrellas are available for your use from the Front Desk. Lost umbrellas will be charged to your bill. If you love our big red umbrellas, you can buy one for Rp 200,000 with the proceeds going to MyRedEnvelope Foundation.

Wake-up Calls

We recommend simply waking up when you feel like it, but, if you do need a wake up call, you know who to ask? The Front Desk of course. We never sleep…

Yoga

Yes there are some good choices for Yoga in Seminyak. Just around the corner, in easy walking distance is Yoga 108 on Jl Drupadi No. 108. Walk in price is Rp 100,000 or it’s only Rp 800,000 for 10 classes. The 7:30 class is more a relaxed stretchy style. The 9:30 class is more intense. All levels welcome.

4. Where To Eat

There are many great dining options in Seminyak and you will readily find international food such as Italian, Mexican, French, Japanese and Greek cuisines. Nearby there are Australian and Irish Pubs too. But we are choosing to highlight some of the places we love that are within walking distance (15-20 minutes) and which present more regionally based menus. Most of them can be great for either lunch or dinner.

They are not included here but right at the entrance to Bali Ginger Suites are some locally owned places which are very good, bargain priced, and friendly; please support our street.

Please check google maps as a great reference point for how to get there, but also to check opening hours. If you are not in the mood for walking our staff can help arrange transport or book for you.

Jivaa Koffie. I love this place, and if you are staying in one of our own Chinese/Indonesian villas you will recognise this is made from a similar structure. The setting is relaxed and a little bit old school Indonesian with antique furnishings and things of stone and wood. The menu is varied with some Indonesian dishes you may not find anywhere else in Bali, and their own brand Jivva Coffee is great (buy a bag to take home with you). The garden setting is very relaxing and there is a colourful indonesian style cubby house that kids would enjoy.

WACKO. My type of name for a lunch place. It is just around the corner and is basically a burger place, but I am willing to say it is probably the best burger place in Bali. Highly recommend the Zen Burger, but you can tailor the burgers to your needs.

Warung Taman Bambu. This is the place I eat the most. It’s local, although you will find plenty of non-locals here. Like many warungs, when you enter, there is a counter with a large range of dishes in serving bowls for you to choose from. You will be asked “Nasi apa?” or “What kind of rice?” and can choose from white, yellow or brown (red). After that, simply point at the dishes that take your fancy, but the small staff can help with a bit of English. Don’t leave without adding some of their perkedel jagung (corn cakes). Ask for some sambal. The slightly sweet and not too spicy red one is my favourite; I mean favourite in the whole world, not just on their menu. Your total bill will be somewhere between $2-5 and it can be your favourite too.

Cendana. If you walk to the beach you may notice this place on the right hand side perhaps 200 metres from the beach itself. It serves delicious Indonesian food only slightly adjusted for Western palates. The rustic restaurant area is very comfortable and perfect for watching the passers by, but you can also go into the garden area and grab a table beside the pool. And if you have your bathers, jump in! My Tip; when ordering I always ask if they have a sambal  they could add to the order. I especially love sambal matah (a fresh mixture of chili, shallots and garlic) or sambal merah (a red spicy and addictive addition to anything apart from desserts).

Chai’ba. Seminyak has rapidly emerged as a popular place to open an Indian restaurant and we are loving it. Chai’ba stands above all the other options for us. It has a sophisticated edge to it and the entire operation is very professional and reasonably priced.

Jackson Lily. is fantastic. Chef Dean Keddel has created an innovative menu and it is matched by the purpose built restaurant. They have a selection of set menus for two or more which is an excellent way to enjoy the menu’s diversity, and they also have an innovative cocktail menu infused with local flavours. If you are heading down Eat Street (Jl Kayu Ayu) their sister restaurant, Ginger Moon, is also wonderful.

Bloom. Apart from great food, terrific service and an elegant design, the next thing on my cafe wishlist is a garden, and Bloom provides. Right in the arterial centre of Seminyak with Bintang Supermarket as a close neighbour, Bloom is a bit of a sanctuary. It manages to squeeze a lot of variety into its menu which is ideal for a flirty lunch, but would work well for dinner too. The salads are fresh and there is something for everyone on the menu.

Vietnam Bistrot by Mama Hanh. Newly opened and located at the rebuilt Bintang Supermarket, Mama Hanh has created an unexpected addition to the Seminyak food scene. Authentically Vietnamese, and featuring a vegetarian menu on request, her food is fresh and the menu is lively. Best place to combine grocery shopping and lunch, but also perfect for dinner.

La Lucciola. Maybe just outside most people’s walking range, but consider a stroll to the beach before sunset. Turn right and keep going until you see a grassed area up in the sand dunes with 4 or 5 lazy coconut palms, just before a little river. You have arrived. I often say that if I was leaving Bali for the last time, this would be where I would gather my friends and family for a last meal and a final sunset. I’d make sure I tell the waiter it’s my birthday because their staff sing the worst ever version of Happy Birthday, and that’s something I would really miss.

Chandi. You may have noticed that I haven’t really profiled Seminyak’s fabled “Eat Street”, but that’s not because I don’t recommend it, it’s because you will no doubt find it for yourself. But I do highly recommend Chandi for its pan-asian menu and comfortable setting. Their sate platters are great for sharing, and they do have a vegetarian option.

5. What To Do

Our staff at the Front Desk are available to help with any questions you may have about activities and day trips you might like to do during your holiday in Bali. We try to recommend activities which we have direct experience of, however, in the end we take no responsibility for the services provided.

For the adventurous of spirit try Elephant Safari Park, White Water Rafting, Cycling down Kintamani, Quad Bike Adventures or Water Sports of all sorts.

For families we suggest Waterbom Park, Cycling tours, Bali Bird Park and Reptile Park, Butterfly Park, Bali Safari Park, Learn to Surf, Horse Riding, Kecak Dances and Sunset at the temple at Tanah Lot or Uluwatu.

For the more relaxed visitors Yoga classes, Learning to Cook Indonesian food, Massage, Pedicure, Manicure and another Massage, lunch in Ubud, at sunrise take a long walk on the beach, at sunset find a spot on the bean bags at Seminyak Beach, shopping and a massage or Learn Salsa dancing.

Eating is a pleasure in Bali, with many options for a wide range of budgets. Just near our entrance are terrific places including The Cabin just at the end of Gang Ginger. There are other nearby options in Jalan Camplung Tanduk. On the beachfront itself is a range of café style eateries as well as the fabulous Chez Gado Gado for something more upmarket. Jalan Drupadi takes you to the legendary Jalan Kayu Aya (aka Eat Street), and all along the way they are peppered with food options including contemporary Indonesian food, Italian, Mexican, Greek and Japanese restaurants to name a few. For more info see Where To Eat.

Shopping has endless possibilities in Bali. You can go local at markets such as the Legian or Ubud Art Markets, where you will meet some of the most persuasive hawkers anywhere and can get “Special Morning price” at anytime of the day, or you can shop in the more familiar fixed price shopping malls such as Mall Bali Galeria and Discovery Mall. In Seminyak itself you will find a vast array of boutiques with original designs, alongside global brand outlets; head towards Seminyak Village and you will pass many on the way. You can also find tailors to fit you out in your own design, or an “original copy”. Enjoy the banter as you haggle for the best price. Along Jl Kerobokan you can buy new furniture for your house and a carved marble bath, put it in a sea container and ship it home. You know you need it, right?

And finally, don’t be afraid to do nothing at all. Sleep in, laze around the pool, mooch in front of the TV, take that book you brought with you out of the bag and fall asleep on the sun lounge before you even open it, ignore your emails, daydream, get a massage delivered to your door.
